Our dogs are our best friends, they are family, and we all want what's best for our family right.  So homecooking for our furbabies just seems natural.

Making homemade treats for your pup is a great way for you to keep track of exactly what they're eating, and it's cost effective too.  It's also a fabulous way to create special treats just for them with additives that address their special diets and needs.
And lastly... it's a very special way to show them that you love them .... just that little  bit more!

Here are some reasons why baking your doggy friend is wonderful idea.

Homemade Dog Treats are Safer
Most store bought cookies have ingredients that a lot of us probably unfamiliar with, things we've never even heard of. When you make your own treats you know exactly what in in them.  This way you have a high level of control and options about what to feed their furbabies. Homemade treats are also chemical free and should always be made with fresh ingredients.

Some studies have suggested that long term ingestion of the chemicals found in many commercial treats, snacks and food products can negatively impact a dog's tissue. Further, as the regulation of dog food and treats is very poor a lof of the chemicals and preservatives used aren't even approved for human consumption.  If we shouldn't eat them then why should our dogs?

We encourage you to read this enlightening article “ Killing Them Softly: The Truth Behind Pet Treat Labels .” This article exposes the raw truth about some of the chemical ingredients used and provides many examples of known carcinogens in pet foods.  This toxic exposure can cause liver and kidney problems, loss of consciousness, brain damage, and life-threatening asthma.

Homemade Dog Treats are Healthier
Homemade treats are often made with ingredients that contain less fat than commercial treats. By homebaking you are able to provide your dog yummy fat-free or reduced-fat treats that not only help heart, health but will also helps keep them trim. Additionally there are many ingredients that act as natural antioxidants, such as blueberries, or kidney cleansers, such as cranberries, or even help clean teeth, such as strawberries!  Let's also remember that by baking your own treats you can add any supplements your dog may require for overall health or simply for a shiny coat, such as coconut or fish oil.

Homemade Dog Treats are Cheaper
Homemade treats can be very inexpensive to make, depending on how fancy you want to get.  Buy in bulk.  Have a baking party and split the cost of big batch baking.. there are many ways homebaking can save money.

Homemade Dog Treats are Tastier
Because you know exactly what you pup likes you can homebake specially tailored cookies just for him.  No more wasted bags of commercial treats that Fido turns his nose up at!  To be honest... I often bake cookies that Lexy and I can both share.  Human grade, delicious ingredients I already stock in my cupboard.
